(Note you do not have
to be connected in order to do this)

Click on the Netscape
Communicator icon on the desktop

You will then get
a dial up connection window or an error message such as “unable to locate
server”. All you need to do is close out of these windows

Click on Edit on
the menu at the top of the screen
4.
Scroll down to Preferences
5.
You will then see
a list of items to the left of the Preferences window
6.
Click on the +
sign next to Mail & Newsgroups, it will then turn to a – sign
7.
You will then see
a menu appear underneath Mail & Newsgroups
8.
Click on the word
Identity
9.
In the identity
window make sure your first and last name is typed correctly (The way
you like it to appear when sending email)
10. Make sure your email address is typed correctly (All
lowercase) ex. username@bbc.net
11. This is all that needs to be filled in on the window (
Do Not click OK)
12. Looking back at the list to the left of the screen
13. Click on Mail Servers
14. Make sure the incoming and outgoing mail
servers are both mail.bbc.net (lowercase)
15. The outgoing mail server user name is only your user
name, not your full email address. (Your email address without @bbc.net)
16. On the same window, click on Edit box at the
top right corner of the servers window
17. Check the server name (should be mail.bbc.net)
18. Check the server type (should be POP 3 Server
19. The user/login name is your user name only, not your
full email address (Your email address without @bbc.net)
20. The save password option is your own preference (this
feature is so your computer will remember your password every time you check
your email. Although the very first initial time you check your email your
computer will ask you to enter your password, so that it will know what to save
as your password)
21. Click OK
22. Now you should be back to the servers window
23. On the list to the left of the screen, click on Newsgroup
Servers
24. Make sure the correct news server is typed in the news
server box.
25. If the box is
blank, click on Add

. The news server is news.bbc.net
28.Click OK to all the
windows until your get back to the home page

How to setup email in
Netscape Communicator?
More than one email address
1.
Make sure you are
on the desktop
2.
Click on start
down in the bottom left corner of the screen
3.
Scroll up to programs
4.
Go to Netscape
Communicator
5.
Go to Utilities
6.
Go to User
Profile Manager
7.
You will then get
a “Profile Manager” window

Click New
9.
You will get a “Creating
New Profile” window

Click Next
11.
Type in the Full
Name & Email address in the spaces provided.

Click Next
13.
Profile name –
Type in the email address without the @ bbc.net behind it (All Lowercase)

Click Next

The Outgoing
Mail (SMTP) Server is mail.bbc.net (All lowercase)
16.
Click Next
17.
The Mail
Server User Name is your email
address without the @bbc.net behind it
18.
The Incoming
Mail Server is mail.bbc.net (All lowercase)

Chose POP3
for the Server Type
20.
Click Next

The News
(NNTP) Server is news.bbc.net (All lowercase)

Port is 119, do
not check the secure box

Click Finish

If customer has
more than 1 email to activate, repeat this procedure using the 2nd
email information.
After setting up both
emails, if more than one, you may check both emails in Netscape Communicator
using 1 computer.
When you click on the
Netscape Communicator icon on the desktop from now on, a user profile screen
will come up that lets you choose which email address you want to be online
with.
After you highlight which one
you want to be online with, click Start Communicator
You then can check your email
on the user profile that you chose
HOW TO SAVE THE
ADDRESS BOOK IN NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR
Double click on Netscape, click on Communicator, scroll down to Address Book. Click on file in the top left corner and scroll down to Export. You will then get an Export as screen. Click on the down arrow and select 3 1/2 floppy A, the type in the address book in the file section below, then click on Save.
This will save the addresses to the floppy, so that you can import them to a new computer
